What Is Coin Master?
Coin Master is one of those games that sounds simple and then quietly eats your entire evening. You spin a slot machine. The slot machine gives you coins, attack hammers, raid pigs, shields, or bonus spins. You use the coins to build and upgrade a themed village. Once every building in your village is maxed out, you move to the next one. There are over 570 villages. You will not run out of things to build.
What makes it sticky is the social layer on top. Other players can attack your village (knocking your buildings back to level one) or raid it (stealing your coins). You can do the same to them. Shields block attacks. Pets boost your rewards. Card collections unlock bonuses. Events run constantly. And underneath all of it, the spin machine controls everything. Spins are the oxygen of Coin Master. When you have them, the game is a blast. When you don't, you're watching a refill timer tick down 5 spins per hour.
The game is developed by Moon Active, an Israeli studio that hit $6 billion in lifetime Coin Master revenue by mid-2024. It's available on iOS and Android, has been downloaded over 300 million times, and consistently ranks in the top 5 highest-grossing mobile games globally. It's not a niche game. It's a cultural force in mobile gaming, right alongside Monopoly GO and Candy Crush.

How Coin Master Works
The Slot Machine
Everything starts here. Each spin costs one spin (or more if you use bet multipliers). You get coins, attack hammers, raid pigs, shields, or free spins. You regenerate 5 spins per hour up to a cap of 50. Once you're out, you wait, collect free links, or buy more.
Village Building
Each village has 5 buildings to upgrade. Upgrading costs coins, and costs increase as you progress. Once every building is maxed, you move to the next village. There are 570+ villages, each with a unique theme. Completing a village earns you stars and sometimes card chests.
Attacks & Raids
Three hammers on the slot machine lets you attack another player's village, damaging a building and earning coins. Three pigs lets you raid, digging for coin stashes. Raids usually pay more than attacks but both are essential for funding village upgrades.
Shields & Defense
Three shield icons on the machine gives you a shield. Shields absorb attacks without damaging your buildings. You can hold up to 3-5 shields depending on your level. The pet Rhino adds extra defense. Spend your coins before going offline to minimize raid losses.
Card Collections
Cards drop from chests you earn through gameplay. Nine cards make a themed set. Completing a set rewards spins, pet XP, or even a new pet. Cards come in different rarities, and gold cards can only be traded during special trade events. Card trading with friends is a major part of progression.
Pets
Three pets, three different abilities. Foxy digs extra raid spots for more coins. Tiger boosts attack rewards. Rhino blocks incoming attacks. Pets need treats to stay active and XP potions to level up. Only one pet can be active at a time, so you swap based on what you're doing.

Why Spins Are Everything
In most mobile games, the premium currency is something you spend directly on upgrades or items. Coin Master works differently. You spend spins on the slot machine, and the slot machine decides what you get. That extra layer of randomness means your spins per day is the single most important number in the entire game. More spins means more coins, more attacks, more raids, more shields, more card chests. Less spins means you're stuck watching a timer.
Free-to-play sustainability in Coin Master comes down to one question: are you collecting enough free spins daily to fund meaningful progress, or are you slowly falling behind? The answer depends almost entirely on how disciplined you are about collecting from every source. Daily links alone can give you 50-100+ spins per day if you claim them consistently. Add in event rewards, card set completions, ad watching, and friend gifts, and a dedicated free player can sustain solid daily sessions without spending.
Our how to get free spins guide ranks every source by value, and the spin strategy guide covers how to spend them so they last.
