Klondike Expedition Zone Guide
Klondike has four expedition zone tiers, each with different energy costs, resource outputs, and milestone rewards. The right zone for any session depends on your homestead level and energy reserve. This guide ranks all four zones, explains what each delivers, and tells you exactly when to use each one.
| Zone | Energy/Action | Milestone Energy | Level Req. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nomad Plateau | 3-5 per action | 30 energy | Level 5+ |
| River Delta | 7-10 per action | 55 energy | Level 15+ |
| Ancient Ruins | 12-18 per action | 80 energy | Level 30+ |
| Mountain Pass | 20-30 per action | 120 energy | Level 50+ |
Nomad Plateau
3-5 per action
Energy/Action
30 energy
Milestone Energy
Level 5+
Level Req.
Short (20-40 actions)
Session Length
Nomad Plateau is the most energy-efficient expedition zone in Klondike. The low energy cost per action means a single energy refill can complete multiple zone segments, and the milestone energy drops are proportionally large relative to the energy spent entering them. Players at any homestead level can benefit from periodic Nomad Plateau runs to collect milestone energy without committing a large energy reserve.
Tips
- Run Nomad Plateau when your energy reserve is between 50-100 to stretch the zone without depleting your floor
- Milestone energy drops here are reliable - prioritise reaching milestones over spread progress
- Return to Nomad Plateau during events to complete expedition-based event tasks cheaply
River Delta
7-10 per action
Energy/Action
55 energy
Milestone Energy
Level 15+
Level Req.
Medium (30-50 actions)
Session Length
River Delta unlocks at homestead level 15 and introduces the resource variety that mid-tier crafting recipes require. The higher energy cost per action is offset by material types that simply do not appear in the Nomad Plateau. Players who stall on crafting recipes that call for fabric or iron are almost always underinvesting in River Delta runs.
Tips
- Reserve 100+ energy before entering River Delta to complete at least one full milestone segment
- Prioritise River Delta runs when active crafting recipes require fabric or iron
- The milestone energy drop here justifies the higher entry cost - commit to reaching it rather than partial zone progress
Ancient Ruins
12-18 per action
Energy/Action
80 energy
Milestone Energy
Level 30+
Level Req.
Long (40-70 actions)
Session Length
Ancient Ruins is gated behind homestead level 30 and costs significantly more energy per action than earlier zones. The rare materials it yields are required for high-tier building upgrades that unlock late-game crafting and homestead features. The 80-energy milestone drop is the highest available before endgame zones - reaching it requires planning but pays back a substantial portion of the energy spent.
Tips
- Enter Ancient Ruins only with 150+ energy reserve to sustain a full milestone push
- Schedule Ancient Ruins sessions after claiming multiple daily reward links to enter with maximum energy
- Focus on completing a full zone segment per session rather than spreading energy across multiple zones
Mountain Pass
20-30 per action
Energy/Action
120 energy
Milestone Energy
Level 50+
Level Req.
Very Long (50-80 actions)
Session Length
Mountain Pass is the highest-yield expedition zone in Klondike and the only source of crystalline ore needed for endgame building upgrades. The energy cost per action is the highest in the game, but the 120-energy milestone drop and expedition bonus chests make Mountain Pass net positive for players who can complete a full milestone push. Attempting Mountain Pass without an adequate reserve leads to stalling mid-zone - the most common endgame energy complaint.
Tips
- Never enter Mountain Pass with fewer than 200 energy in reserve - mid-zone stalls waste the energy already spent
- Plan Mountain Pass sessions after a full day of timed bonus collection and daily reward links
- Expedition bonus chests in Mountain Pass contain energy - factor them into your session planning as partial refills
